Singaporean wants to set up bank in Hell

I AM concerned over the poor air quality during the Chinese seventh month.

I understand and respect the fact that a huge proportion of our citizens place importance in the burning of hell money as a form of respect to their ancestors and deities.

However, with the current global emphasis on saving the environment, I see a pressing need to make some suggestions.

In our mortal world, we now have credit cards, cheques and several forms of remittances (SWIFT and telegraphic transfers). I appeal to religious leaders, whose followers practise the burning of hell money, to study the implications of alternative hell fund transfers.

I see these alternatives as a win-win situation for the living and the deceased. The latter stand to receive an infinite amount of hell funds with the mere burning of say, one hell cheque or one hell credit card, thus saving a whole stack of paper from the bonfire, or the religious leaders could run a form of remittance facility. With the technological advances that we now have, I am confident that where there's a will, there's a way.

It is timely to set a good example to our younger generation to practise what we have been preaching to other nations struggling to curb the slash-and-burn method to clear jungles and forests and that is, to reduce, to reuse and to recycle.

LXX EX Sx (Mdm)

This lady wrote in to the Straits times to suggest a alternative to burning hell notes. To set up a bank in hell for funds transfer. That suggestion might just work, maybe DBS or Temasek may like to look into it. Especially with the recent hoo hah with Barclays, Temasek might want to look into other areas of investment.

We have to go with the times. We need to have credit cards and bank accounts for them 'good brothers'..666-66666-666. The Hell Black card.

Then people have to worry about inflation, transfer rates, adn currency exchange. Oh Oh might as well have laws that we must declare how much money we are 'sending' out of SG. Who knows some people might be money laundering.

Thats the Uniquely Singaporean way of going with times.

This letter reminds me of the funny letter we read where this lady complained about hearing soldiers marching in the middle of the night. Equally funny.

At least now when ppl die they have jobs.

Maybe people should stop going to hell after they die, so there will be lesser souls in hell and can burn lesser joss papers. You don't hear people burning joss papers for those who went to heaven.

Or maybe they should one time burn a few major banks, alot of atm machines and alot of Nets/Visa machine. So that those down there can withdrawn money and of course use their credit cards.
