Popular brands in Asia Pacific....

A partnership between Brandtology (a local company, not a sister of scientology) and Edelman resulted in the release of the top technology brands in Singapore as well as the Asia Pacific regions.

What is interesting about this study is that it not only lists the popular brands with alot of mentions taking into consideration the sentiments and chatter online on blogs and forums, it also lists out the popular channels of that particular country.

“While social media is hyper-local in terms of influencers, topics and channels where conversations take place, benchmarking and comparison of performance is critical,” said Eddie Chau, Founder & CEO of Brandtology. “The DBI offers data and insights which brands can leverage to plan and execute more proactive social media marketing. It also serves as a means to measure the impact generated in terms of increases in conversation, channel presence, engagement levels, and therefore overall industry ranking. Any brand can lead in core rankings, with the right goals and social media marketing programs in place.”

Kelly Choo (he is a man not woman, just like Rachel Bolan from Skid Row, also a man not a woman...but I digress) from Brandtology shared the findings and infact visit his blog to see what this means for brand owners.

This would be a good indication and KPI setter for online brand marketers.

I don't see Nikon in the list, maybe its a sign for me to change.

Some of the key feedback given at the preview.
Additional categories for the DBI
Product categories
Brands which are B2C or B2B
Sub-brands within brands ( say for SingTel, would it be referring to SingTel Mobile or Mio or Singnet)

More clarity on the terms used
Defining what is a conversation versus what is a mention

Highlighting the differences in channels such as blogs and forums as they evolve
How do different brands engage influencers within channels accordingly
Further studies on brands in other industries (Would be useful if NTOs were incorporated)

Health brands, consumer brands etc.

With all these incorporated in, it will be some what a powerful tool for all companies keen on building a strong brand online.

Of course bearing in mind, Online doesn't translate to direct sales. So again this will be a good indicator on what your brand commands on Singapore.

Also I see this powerful tool as something that will launch blogger wars in the Singapore blogosphere as it can not only track the channels like forums and such. It can also track which are the popular bloggers in Singapore.

It will be interesting to see what the results are.........
