What entertainment scene?

What is creativity in Singapore all about. This is the question I ask myself when I look at the entertainment scene in Singapore.

What entertainment scene?

Honestly name me someone famous that I can say was born and produced in Singapore. Lets ignore the Suns and Chuas that was produced and made famous in Taiwan. In Singapore we have people who release one, only ONE album and they have the capabilities to have a solo concert in Indoor Stadium. Can we respect people like them? I know I can’t.

Look at places like Phillippines, Thailand or Malaysia. Wherever you go, they play music local music at their local music store, TV plays local MTV. The amount of exposure their artistes gets is so much more then what we have here in Singapore.

In Singapore we play overseas music, from your American bands to Taiwan boy bands. How many local music dealers would actively push for sales of local music.

We do have bands like Electrico that seems to be carving a niche overseas. But one can only hope they don’t become the next Padres.

We need more support from local media for our local entertainment scene.

And by entertainment, I also include movie making. Local movie is not Jack Neo only. I mean I do respect him. But all we have are movies that complain about the government, the everyday complains about Singaporeans. How long can this last?

We need more Roystan Tan and Eric Khoos.

Why don’t Raintree Pictures invest in a pure Singapore movie, rather then investing in overseas movies with overseas stars? We don’t have actors? No directors? No storylines?

If America can have Pearl Harbour, Why can’t we have something about the battle of Bukit Timah.
Ever since Teenage Textbook, why can’t we have another love story done in
Singapore?

Honestly if we locals can’t support the local entertainment scene, we can only be stuck with the mediacorp standards and have nothing to shout to the world.
