Singapore's own Fried Rice Paradise
Singapore River by Ng Woon Lam
Why do you think we have events like Singapore Biennale, Singapore Arts Festival and Mosiac music festival? It is to showcase the art and culture of Singapore to the world.
But what really makes me feel like a Singaporean is when I listen to our own Made in Singapore music.
Of course while the rest of the world is listening to the Biebers, the Jay-Zs and the Lady Antebellums. I was listening to the likes of Lunarin, TypeWriter, Cheating Sons, Inch Chua and lots more, on top of that we have Dick Lee, Stephanie Sun all proudly Made In Singapore.
I could probably go on and on about the lack of support and awareness for local musicians. But lets talk about what is it that they do that makes me feel at Home.
It is the passion and the music when they play every beat and sing every note that reminds you constantly that you are in Singapore. When I go overseas and listen to their local musicians. Yes it is nice and all but nothing gives me a sense of belonging and feel home. When you listen to overseas artistes, yes the lyrics may apply to you and how you feel, but there is always something missing.
The closeness and passion that makes the music more endearing to us, it is called Singapore music.
So if you are staying overseas or know people who stay overseas, send them a copy of a made in Singapore CD.
Nothing says Singapore like music Made in Singapore.
